There are many different types of hearing aids, and patients often ask me, “how do I decide what hearing aid is right for me?”
It helps to understand what different types of hearing aids are available. Hearing aids can be worn behind the ear and are called behind-the-ear or BTE hearing aids. They can be worn in the ear or deep in the ear canal and then are called in-the-ear (ITE) or in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids.

Although these hearing aids can look the same, the technology inside of the hearing aid will vary. The lower the cost of the aid, the less sophisticated the signal processing is. The amount of technology that you require will depend on your lifestyle and listening needs.
The way the hearing aid looks on your ear is extremely important to most people. The options that are available to you will depend on the type, and degree, of hearing loss that you have. However, there are cosmetically acceptable options for most people. Particularly with the micro BTE style aids, even more patients can hear how they want and be comfortable with how their aids look.
Of course, how you hear with the hearing aids is of the utmost importance. As an audiologist it is rewarding to be able to provide excellent hearing for my patients.
Patients who have recently upgraded their hearing aid technology have told me what a difference the newer hearing aids have made in their lives. They tell me they can hear their friends and family clearer and with less effort. They also share that music is more enjoyable with their new aids. For those who have never tried hearing assistance, the new aids have a natural sound that makes conversation easier to perceive with less strain.
Hearing aids are an investment in yourself and those you love. Being able to participate in everyday communication without strain, connects you to what is important: your family, work, and friends.
About Better Care Audiology is proud to provide: demonstration equipment, trial periods (30 days), and free hearing aid checks /cleanings for two years after the purchase of your aid.
